Interactive Breakout Sessions in 2019

Read more here about a couple of the more interactive Breakout Sessions at the 2019 ECAM. To see complete list of all the Breakout Sessions check out the 2019 EarthCube Program

We look forward to seeing you in Denver!

Breakout Session about Sample-Based Data

.

“Standards and Best Practices for Samples and Sample-based Data” by Kerstin Lehnert
Wednesday, June 12, 2:00pm - 3:30pm

.
If you have an interest in physical samples and the data acquired on these samples and plan to attend ECAM, please join the breakout session “Standards and Best Practices for Samples and Sample-based Data” on Wednesday, June 12, 2:00pm - 3:30pm. The goal of this session is to discuss how we can collaborate and converge on standards and best practices for machine-readable and interoperable sample-based data, and (test) implement these in a range of different data systems.

.
.

Kerstin Lehnert would like to encourage you to contribute a short presentation (up to 3 slides) about your interest in sample-based data and any data models, metadata standards, vocabularies, APIs, etc. that you use, and/or challenges and gaps you would like to bring up. Please let me know if you can contribute (email to lehnert@ldeo.columbia.edu). The current agenda includes contributions from Doug Fils (Open Core Data) and Peng Ji (EarthChem). It would be great to hear about a wider range of use cases.

Breakout Session on Resource Registry

.
"EarthCube resource registry, progress and review" by Stephen Richard, Ruth Duerr, Ilya Zaslavsky
Thursday, June 13, 2:00pm - 3:30pm

.
The EarthCube Resource Registry is intended to provide the framework for answering questions like:

1. "How can EarthCube help me?" (Science Engagement),
2. "If I had an EarthCube Workbench, what capabilities could I access through it?" (Workbench) and
3. “What EarthCube software components can I use to get my application working?” (Developers).
.

.
It extends the idea of an EarthCube Registry beyond data sets, to a generalized Registry of software components, APIs, semantic resources, tools, apps, use cases, etc. with descriptive information to facilitate evaluation for reuse.
.
We have drafted a preliminary information model and need suggested resources to include to test it.  We are holding a mini-workshop / hackathon at the EarthCube Annual Meeting on Thursday afternoon.
.

.
If you have a piece of software, a tool, an API, an interchange format, a service, a vocabulary, ontology or information model, a specification, a registry, platform, or use case or other resource that you’d hope to find in the registry, please bring it so we can test our model and see what gaps or other issues there might be. Contact Stephen Richard <smrtucson@gmail.com> or Ruth Duerr <ruth.duerr3@gmail.com>  if you have any questions.
