We will characterize the ODSIP Building Block and its value to EarthCube. Specifically, ODSIP enriches the notion of data-as-service with an extensible set of server functions. Such functions—i.e., pre-retrieval operations performed on data while being acquired by end users—will lower impediments that arise from remote use of transdisciplinary data. We also will demonstrate a few (prototype) server functions that have been realized as extensions to OpenDAP's widely used Data Access Protocol (DAP).
