Poster presented at the 2015 All Hands Meeting.
The poster illustrates how BCube can 1) facilitate discovery and access of geoscience data, 2) interconnect major data facilities, and 3) creates a new paradigm for data advertising and discovery through data casting and web crawling, allowing researchers to focus on the answers to science questions rather than on the mechanics of data access and formatting.
In the poster, the BCube broker and crawler concepts are introduced and science scenarios illustrate the types of research undertaken by scientists for the ocean, climate, hydrology and polar domains, which forms the basis of the all-hands Bcube demonstration.
We continue exploring the needs of our current team of scientists and are integrating our international partners. We are also expanding the BCube focus to include an enhanced cryosphere scenario, and a cross-domain scenario linking hydrology, climate, and estuary research. We will also demonstrate how the BCube broker can be used to increase the repeatability of research among the domains.
As one of 15 building blocks, we have begun interfacing BCube with other funded projects, such as GEOWS, and CINERGI, and we would like to invite discussion with building blocks projects we have not yet interfaced with to discuss interesting partnerships, which will lead to new science discoveries. For example, a volcanology scenario will demonstrate what can be accomplished by linking our respective capabilities.
In parallel, we have begun addressing sustainability of the BCube broker, within the context of the Research Data Alliance (RDA). To that end, a brokering governance working group has been approved and staffed by a strong international multi-disciplinary team, focusing on business models, brokering agreements and additional use case scenarios.
